Custom Packing Tape — FAQ
What B2B buyers most often ask before specifying custom packing tape — answered from industry references.
BOPP, paper, or washi tape?
BOPP is the low-cost sealing standard with loud full-color branding; water-activated kraft paper bonds deep into recycled cartons and recycles with the box; washi is decorative and writable for DTC unboxing moments.
What width and roll length should I order?
48–72 mm covers most hand and machine sealing; 50 m retail rolls suit light use, 200 m+ machine rolls lower cost per seal. Match width to carton weight class and dispenser hardware.
How many colors can tape print?
BOPP flexo prints 1–3 spot colors crisply; full-bleed multi-color art suits gravure runs at higher volume. Ink coverage and repeat pattern are engineered to the seal overlap.
Is water-activated tape really better for recycled boxes?
Its starch adhesive penetrates recycled fibers that pressure-sensitive tape can struggle on, creating a bond that fails the board before the tape. It also eliminates plastic from the recycling stream.
Can tape be part of tamper evidence?
Yes — printed security tape patterns show void evidence when peeled, and WAT seals visibly tear when opened. Combine with security mailers for layered protection.
How should tape be stored?
Pressure-sensitive tape prefers 15–25 °C, dry storage away from sunlight; adhesive ages — first-in-first-out stock rotation keeps sealing performance consistent.
